The headgear of Glasgow Police evolved much the same as most UK Police forces.
From the Top Hat through a number of helmet designs to the reluctant acceptance of the peaked
cap as the primary item of headgear.

The hat badges, which were introduced in the 1870's bore the Glasgow coat-of-arms
until 1932 when the Standard Scottish crest was adopted. Badges worn on night duty were
painted black to avoid light reflection.
